Barber’s Daughter watercolor and gouache on watercolor paper 23cm x 19.5cm In a small village in Cambodia, this girl’s father, a barber, was on the verge of death and was to be sent to a hospital until the villagers objected. They said that it was unholy to die outside of his village, and the girl lost her father. Through the use of grey for the skin tone, this piece shows the gradual fading of the girl’s memory of her father, just like how he has already faded away from her life. It captures her waiting for her father to come back; the hope in her eyes still strong. Reference is taken from a collaborating photographer, 吕晓露, Lv Xiao Lu. |
